Welcome to Kindermusik with Brooke! I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child throughout the course of this semester. You will find that the Kindermusik program is unique in how it serves each individual child's personality and developmental stage. This information serves to help you make the most of your experience by giving you information on best practices and outlining the classroom guidelines. Please do not hesitate to share your thoughts with me. Your feedback will only help me to become a better teacher!

 Choosing a Class

The age recommendations outlined for Kindermusik classes have been carefully constructed to best group children in an age and developmentally appropriate way. Therefore, it is important that your child be at least the minimum age by the start of the semester for the class in which you are enrolling.  If you have concerns about your child's success in a particular age range, I am happy to discuss your child's needs and to work with you to place him in the class best suited for him.

Making the Most of Kindermusik Classes

The most important thing you can do for your child is to be an active but patient role model. Your child may not follow the teacher at first, but they will follow you.  Kindermusik believes that a child's caregivers are the most important people in a young child's life, from whom they will learn the most.  That is why your teacher will interact with caregivers in the classroom at least as much as with the children.  You, the caregiver, can then support and continue the musical experiences of your child(ren) in the comfortable setting of your home. The Kindermusik home materials are designed to assist caregivers and parents reinforcing and complimenting the classroom experience.

Young children are still learning how to interact in a group setting, and in each class I actively work on taking turns, sharing, listening and respecting others. If your child is having difficulty focusing or participating, gently redirect his or her attention and try to engage him or her again a little later.

A 45-minute class may feel like a lifetime to your child and all the stimuli can be overwhelming, especially for very young babies.  Should your child become "unsettled" (crying, screaming, running, tantrum) to the extent that this behavior may compromise the safety or enjoyment of others in class, please allow for a moment of calm by stepping outside of the classroom with your child. Do come back in as soon as you can. This is all part of your child's developmental growth, learning, and cooperation in a group and/or social setting.

Class Guidelines

I have set a few basic guidelines to ensure a happy and safe Kindermusik experience for all. Please help explain and enforce the following guidelines with your child in class:

1.        No running in class (unless teacher instructs to do so).

2.       Leave toys or food outside the classroom as they often become objects of   dispute.

3.     Children may not purposefully hurt other children or throw objects.

4.      Turn off cell phones, please.

By the way, I love for parents to visit before or after class, but not during class time please! J When you are an active, focused, enthusiastic participant, your child will model your actions and focus more fully, too.

Health Policy

I ask that you respect the safety and well-being of other class participants by only bringing your child to class when he/she is not contagious, and has been free of fever, diarrhea and/or vomiting for 24 hours. You will find that a lot of props are being used in the class and I keep the "mouthed" objects separate from the dry ones so that they can be wiped or washed after class. I ask that you please be diligent in keeping track of objects your child has had in her/his mouth when I am still using them in class, and help prevent them from ending up in the hands and mouths of other children. It is very important to me that all instruments or props used in class are clean and disinfected for the health of your children. You and your child(ren) are asked to wipe or clean your hands before and after class with an antibacterial agent.

 Make-Up Classes

Classes will be made up in the event of teacher illness or inclement weather. You will be notified of the cancellation and I will coordinate a scheduled make-up class with you. Every 15-week session will have ONE built-in MAKE-UP class at the end of the semester. Notice will be given of date & time. Should you have to miss a class because of unforeseen circumstances, please notify your teacher as soon as possible.  However, if you are unable to complete the semester, for unforeseen reasons, you will be entitled to a tuition credit to be applied to the following semester.

Payment and Refunds

Payment is due in full before or on the first day of class unless other arrangements have been made. Let me know of planned absences before or when you register for a semester and your tuition will be prorated. If a class is cancelled by the teacher, and a make-up class cannot be scheduled, you will be refunded tuition for that class.  Home Materials are ordered at the time of registration. If you later decide that you cannot attend the semester before it begins, you will be charged for the ordered material + shipping. At Home materials cannot be refunded once ordered, and a new set will need to be purchased with each new semester. No other refunds are given unless the class doesn't make.

Discounts

You are entitled to an early bird discount when you sign up for the following semester before the current semester ends or by the early bird registration date given. When you refer a friend who also registers for Kindermusik, you are entitled to the referral discount. The referral discount will be given in the form of one free class (approximate value $10). For each sibling you register in the program, you are entitled to 20% off tuition for the additional sibling. Sibling discounts are only available for multiple children in the 15-week sessions and do not apply to five-week sessions.

Please do not hesitate to contact me by email: kmwithbrookekarr@yahoo.com or phone: (830) 643-4768 if I can be of further help. I look forward to having you and your child join us for a great semester of Kindermusik classes!
